Summary

Wow。 That was quite an ending, I was seriously on the edge of my seat this whole book。 I honestly hated the first book and nikolai carried book 2 for me but this one saved the series as a whole for me。 Like I get it now。

I am sad her story has come to an end, but I love the development and where she ended。 “Na razrusha'ya。 I am not ruined。 E'ya razrushost。 I am ruination。” —Leigh BardugoRuin and Rising seemed the most mature of the three books in the series making it all the more enjoyable to read。 There was some really great character growth for Alina, Mal, and Nikolai。 One of my favorite parts of this book was that we were able to hear more of Genya’s back story。 It was always hinted at, but hearing about what she went through and seeing her strength in the aftermath of such a tragedy was really amazing。 I found her to be one of the strongest female characters in the series。 I did think that she had the potential for more than what we see of her in this book。 It wasn't until the ending, that I was really hoping for maybe a one off book or separate series that explore Genya and her new role。 King of Scars while it focuses on Nikolai, I think also has Genya playing an important role, which is exciting。 “You were meant for more than me, and I'll die fighting to give it to you。 But please don't ask me to pretend it's easy。” —Leigh BardugoI felt like Mal really came into his own in this book。 I know that there are those who don’t like him, but I think he grew a great deal。 It was clear that as Alina developed her power, he was dealing with feeling lost and trying to determine what his purpose is。 He spent the second book fighting the changes that Alina was going through。 Resisting what was happening as if he could make it all stop and go back to the way it was before。 In this book, he seems to have accepted Alina for who she is and is all the more committed to helping her by doing whatever is necessary。 Watching him and Alina strengthen their bond was admirableOnce again, the Darkling stood out as one of the most complex characters I have read。 Like the second book, I didn’t feel like he had much page time。 He is constantly being talked about, but he wasn't physically present for the majority of the book。 Again, I don’t feel like I ever fully figured him out。 Despite having read all three books in the series, I think I am going to have to resign myself to never fully understanding the Darkling。 The cat and mouse game between him and Alina was mysterious, tension filled, and seemingly endless。 I thought it really added to who he was as a character and also proved important for Alina in her own growth。 Ruin and Rising was a wonderful end to an even more wonderful series。 It opened up the possibilities for more books (which we already have!) while also wrapping things up in an agreeable way。 I am excited that I will now have the Netflix show to watch soon。 I am looking forward to seeing this story come to life!My Rating: 4。5/5 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Fourth star against my better judgement。 I just really liked the plot twist。The character development felt like I missed something? What happened to book 2 and the emotional trauma? How are these people not more at odds with each other? How is stabbing the Darkling how he dies? Why does Mal come back? How perfect of an ending even is this?I’m just disappointed I guess。 I don’t usually say this but it might have been better if it was a bit longer and let some character arcs breath/develop more。

This series has been quite a roller coaster for me。 The first book started drawing me in to this series, but it lost me somewhere in the middle。 And I had a hard time getting through the second one。 While this one was soo much better and I am satisfied with how it ended。 I still feel like there was a lot of build up to very quick and unsatisfying ending。

Ok don't attack me。。。But。。。I don't know if I missed what all the hype was about。。。I kinda zombied through this series。 I felt like some things needed a little more elaboration and some things could have been cut。 I felt like I was questioning the flow or continuation or whatever it's called like something would happen and I was like but wait didn't they say this was what happened and now it's different? Does that make sense? They are siblings like tolya said。 Family。 They never stopped believing in Alina and would have died for her without thinking twice。 Genya:Strong and intelligent women!!!I really like her and I’m exited to read more about her。 Zoya:Scorpio vibes!!She is so funny I love it and I’m exited to read more about her。 The Darkling:My favorite character。His family story was so sad and interesting。I think he has lost too much in his life (In this moment he was just a boy -brilliant, blessed with too much power, burdened by eternity。 And just wanted security and power for his grisha。 when his mother died you saw that he was not without a heart and i am 100% convinced that he loved alina。I really wished he would have survived and I literally cried while reading his death scene。 Almost all my favorite quotes are from him。- The Darkling slumped back in his chair。 “Fine,” he said with a weary shrug。 “Make me your villain。 (First book)- I've seen what you truly are," said the Darkling, "and I've never turned away。 I never will。 Can he say the same? (Second book)- How could he be so cruel and still so (third Book)- Don't feel too bad, tracker," said the Darkling。 "All men can be made fools。 (Second book)- Like calls to like。 (first book)- I seem to be a victim of my own wishes (third book)- Fight me as long as you're able。You will find I have far more practice with eternity (first book)- Mercy。" He said the word as if he were tasting something unfamiliar。 "I could be merciful。 (First book)- The problem with wanting is that it makes (first book)- Don’t worry, tracker。 You’ll know when our deal is up。。。I’ll be certain you hear it when I make her scream。 (Second book)Alina & The Darkling I ship the two so much !!It's been a long time since I read a book about so much chemistry between two people as they both have。I think the Darkling really loved Alina, maybe not right from the start, but in the end he wanted more than just the idea from her。 i could imagine that if he and her had lost the grisha power together, that would have showed his love even more clearly and the two could have pursue their desires for each other。 the circumstances hade made their relationship impossible。 I don't think he would have just used her but treated her as an equal and she would have made him a better person in time。I believe that Alina doesn't love Mal but rather the idea of him and that she loves the darkling but not the idea of him。 She decided to be with mal because she didn't want to fully admit her darkest desire。When he died you could see that Alina has feelings for him and he also had feelings for her。 when he wiped her tear away it was so sad but at the same time one of my favorite moments between the two of them。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…………。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…………。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…。。。。。。。。I knelt beside him。 The nichevo'ya had left off thew attacks。 They circled and clattered above us, unsureofwhat to do。 I thought I glimpsed Nikolai among them, arcing toward that patch of blue。"Alina," the Darkling repeated, his fingers seeking mine。 I was surprised to find fresh tears filling my eyes。He reached up and brushed his knuckles over the wetnesslips。 "Someone to mourn me。" He the weight were too much。 "No grave," he gasped, hishand tightening on mine, " for them to desecrate。""All right," I said。 The tears came harder。 There willbe nothing left。He shuddered。 His eyelids drooped。"Once more," he said。 "Speak my name once more。He was ancient, 1 knew that。 But in this brilliant, blessed with too was just a boy burdened by eternity。t"Aleksander。t"Don't let me be alone,His eyes fluttered shut。murmured。 And then he was gone。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…………。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…………。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。…Some of my favorite scenes:- when Nikolai found out what his father did to Genya。- When Alina visited the Darkling at her old home- When Bagrah told her story - When Nikolai gave Alina his Mother ring for the first time。- When I found out that Mal is the third amplifier - As Mal Sacrificed himself - The death scene of the darkling 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I'm going to do my review in bullet points because my thoughts are too scattered right now。 1) Okay so my love for the Darkling definitely diminished in this book。 Like not going to lie, I was a fan of him in "Shadow and Bone" and felt pretty indifferent about him in "Siege and Storm" but in this book, he is OBVIOUSLY a horrible person and I'm not for sure why people still like him。。。 like he's the freaking villain。 Let's get that straight。 ALSO, while we're talking about the Darkling and the fa I'm going to do my review in bullet points because my thoughts are too scattered right now。 1) Okay so my love for the Darkling definitely diminished in this book。 Like not going to lie, I was a fan of him in "Shadow and Bone" and felt pretty indifferent about him in "Siege and Storm" but in this book, he is OBVIOUSLY a horrible person and I'm not for sure why people still like him。。。 like he's the freaking villain。 Let's get that straight。 ALSO, while we're talking about the Darkling and the fact that he is EVIL, why did they romanticize his death。 Like throughout the book, Alina is like "The Darkling is horrible, he's killing people" while also mentioning the fact that he's super hot multiple times and then at the end, she's sad that he's dead and she gives him his last dying wish like WHAT。 He's a bad person!! Let him be dead and be gone。 Sorry if this is too harsh but Alina's thoughts with him were all over the place and I wasn't a fan。 2) I started to like Nikolai more in this book which was a plus! Just like The Darkling, I felt pretty indifferent about him in "Siege and Storm" but I enjoyed him in this book。 3) I also started to like Mal more but still wasn't a huge fan of Alina and Mal together in the end。 I kind of wish she could've stayed single。 Mal being the third amplifier was annoying because that just seemed like a cop out move or a super roll your eyes sort of plot line。 Reminded me a little too much of Harry Potter and in not a super good way either?? Like Mal being the third amplifier (with it sort of being an accident too with the guy making his daughter the amplifier by accident) reminded me of Harry accidentally being the seventh horcrux and this similarity just really bugged me。 And the fact that Harry survived even though he died (but the horcrux inside him died) was super similar to when Mal survived (even though his power inside him died) and again, this made me mad。 Sorry。。。 4) I found myself in this movie getting a lot of the side characters mixed up (and not really caring to try to remember who is who)。 I also couldn't keep track of all those funky words (in italics) that represent some of The Darkling's creatures or whatever (its hard to explain when I really don't know what I'm trying to explain haha) and again, didn't really care that I didn't know。 All in all, first book was by far the best。 And this whole trilogy probably could've been only two books because the second book was just unnecessary。 。。。more

Why did Leigh Bardugo have to play with my heart like that? 😭😭The author failed at making us hate the villain or did she do it on purpose to shatter our in million pieces?

Much, much better than the first two。 Bardugo did an amazing job at tying everything up together for this trilogy, but also prepping the ground for King of Scars and Six of Crows。 I'm so excited for the show! It was a good series。 The world created was brilliantly written。 I just found it so hard to connect with the characters。 I don't think I would read more from the author It was a good series。 The world created was brilliantly written。 I just found it so hard to connect with the characters。 I don't think I would read more from the author 。。。more

I really did like most of this book。 It was probably my favorite of the three but while the climaxes of the first and second book were some of their strongest parts, the climax of the third book, the climax of the entire series, was kind of weak, which was disappointing。 I know what Leigh was trying to go for and I like the idea, but the execution was messy and way too quick。 But I did like the resolution of the story。Also I don’t understand why everyone hates Mal so much。 He’s really sweet and I really did like most of this book。 It was probably my favorite of the three but while the climaxes of the first and second book were some of their strongest parts, the climax of the third book, the climax of the entire series, was kind of weak, which was disappointing。 I know what Leigh was trying to go for and I like the idea, but the execution was messy and way too quick。 But I did like the resolution of the story。Also I don’t understand why everyone hates Mal so much。 He’s really sweet and I thought he went through some great development。 。。。more

Think this is the best book in the series。 I just wish that Alina would have been better off on her own instead of ending up with Mal。

A satisfying end。 I was pleasantly surprised by this one。I'm so glad we get to see more of the characters, especially Baghra and Zoya。 Not just that, I feel like a lot of these characters were explored a lot more, especially the Darkling。 The end for him was just perfect。 It somehow suits him。 I love the fact that we also got to see Alina's and the team growing friendship with each other, Mal's character development as well as Alina's。 Their relationship goes without saying and seeing how much M A satisfying end。 I was pleasantly surprised by this one。I'm so glad we get to see more of the characters, especially Baghra and Zoya。 Not just that, I feel like a lot of these characters were explored a lot more, especially the Darkling。 The end for him was just perfect。 It somehow suits him。 I love the fact that we also got to see Alina's and the team growing friendship with each other, Mal's character development as well as Alina's。 Their relationship goes without saying and seeing how much Mal's and Alina's character grew makes it so much better。 No more just being some angsty teenagers trying to figure out their relationship, but new adults trying to save what they all had left。Some of the action scenes are done so much better than a lot of YA I've read before。 The suspense felt real, the stakes were higher and personal。 The pacing were slow at first but it gradually picks up。There are some things that I think could have been done better, but I I guess I'm satisfied with this。 I started this series not liking it very much, but I'm glad it actually gets better as the series progresses。 My first Leigh Bardugo series and I am not disappointed。 。。。more
